Seemingly the government in strong belief that the Islamic militancy in Bangladesh poses no real threat. Somehow the policy insiders have convinced themselves to this.

Because of the presence of a strong and well established establishment, they (Terrorists) may not be able to cause any immediate damage to the existing structure of the government or may not be able to do any harm to those close to the establishment but there should not be any room for doubt about the severe damage they could cause to the society in general.

For right now, media coverage and limelight are what the militants seek. They have a clear political agenda which is to announce their strong presence with a clear motive- reaching the thousands of madrasa students by creating momentum bit by bit.

And once the terrorist outfits began to gather more recruits from the Madrasas, the purpose would definitely generate more power and momentums which would be very difficult to defeat in the future. It is a pattern we have witnessed repeatedly in the last two decades in countries such as Pakistan,Turkey, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The unfortunate truth which must be revealed is that we are seriously exposed to Islamic militancy. Its been reported many times over the years that the groups like Al-Quieda are casting a hungry eye on our nation and yet we are ill-prepared to counter such efforts. Our law enforcement agencies specially the Counter terrorism units are under-strength and lacking in even the essentials of surveillance technology and training.

Our local police units are equipped with inferior or no technology while the elite intelligence departments were not able to acquire modern surveillance technology for many years until recently after waiting so long they have taken delivery of a few new devices.

This delay has made us weaker gradually and those who tried to take advantage grew stronger. And as the militant groups grew stronger they seek momentum. They are targeting the finest brains our nation has ever produced, just like 1971. Killing the secular minds also the best advertisement they could ever have.

This is the only motive behind the recent target killings of the bloggers and writers. There are no other motives of the killings, nothing that could be considered as ideological. These killings are well planned carefully calculated political execution to gain momentum.

For our nation the damage though is severe. Just imagine the consequences, if they are able to get a hold off few of our finest voices- the likes of Dr. jafar Iqbal, Taslima Nasrin, Muntasir Mamun, sahriar Kabir or Imran H Sarker. Will we be able to fill the intellectual deficit? Is it possible to replace Dr. Jafar Iqbal or Imran H sarker overnight?

We as a nation never wanted to be doomed, we always believed that our glorious time is yet to come. That is why we have sacrificed so many of our lives to create a democratic system with a reasonable expectation that our elected governments would fight those evils who conspires against our land and our people.

This expectation raises a few serious concerns in relation to the recent rise of terrorism and government's action to confront it.

In the past few weeks we have witnessed a number of extra judicial killings by police claiming that the deceased are members of the Islamic militant outfits.

Extra judicial killings are against every principal of rule of law. No matter who the criminal is and how severe the crime is no one should be allowed to deny their rights to a fair trial. No argument to be made - no exceptions to be created- full stop.

Surprisingly, all of these captured and killed suspects are ordinary foot-soldiers, none of them had a leadership role. In most cases the matters were not properly investigated ( If investigated, apparently there were no transparency) or the victims were not even charged accordingly. No effort made to find the truth through a proper transparent trial. It raises an important question, are those killings an effort to hide the truth or to save the Godfathers?

In 2005, we have seen similar actions - closed door trials by the BNP-Jamat Government when they executed Saiokh Abdur rahman and Siddiqur rahman "Bangla Vai" in an effort to hide the Godfathers of the terrorist outfit JMB. We also have witnessed the "Joje Mia Drama" after the terrorist Granade attack on Seikh Hasina. JMB is still in action and we all know the Godfathers who had created JMB are still running it. Rahman and Siddiqur was just two scapegoats.

We are witnessing the same pattern again in 2016. Is the government making a mistake or they simply just playing same old game? If they are trying to hide the Godfathers who are they?

The government playing in the hands of the terrorists. The extra judicial killings of the captured terrorists also helping the outfits to gain momentum. This is exactly what they wanted. They are simply claiming them as martyrs and using them to inspire others.

Also in the last few days we have witnessed the resurrection of a character from the past. An Ex army Major named "Ziaul" a Hijbut-tahrir leader known for his central role behind a failed attempt to facilitate an Army coup to overthrow the government and to create an Islamic Caliphate in Bangladesh.

For Sake of an argument lets just accept the claim made by the government, though it smells very fishy.

How dangerous it is for the security of the state if such a person is not captured for so many years? This person should probably be considered as the most wanted criminal of Bangladesh- no if or but. He tried to overthrow an elected government, planned to start a civil-war, destroy the existing structure of the army and if he was successful it would have been a disaster. And now we are told he was moving almost freely, operating an organised terrorist group.

Does it actually proves the first part of the article- our law enforcement forces are too ill-prepared to combat terrorism.

if the person really exist, he must had some contact with his family somehow. Why the intelligence agencies totally ignored him all these years? Why they did not capture him for his previous crime? Was the members of his family under surveillance which might had lead to his arrest?

Someone financed him to survive, to create and to operate such an organisation. Who are they? If the captured terrorists were trained and instructed by him, he must had used a phone number or multiple phone numbers to contact the operatives. He must have used the same numbers to contact the financiers of the group. How difficult it could be to capture them?

As a proud nation we always believed in a prosperous destiny. It was the driving force of our unity and struggles. A destiny forged by our past sacrifices. We are the first nation in the recent history to fight religious extremism. We fought and won against the combined extremist forces of Pakistan and jamat Islam in 1971. We as a nation won't be crushed by them now. We have defeated them before we will defeat them again. All we need is a clear-strong will by our government to confront those evils all across our land within the boundaries of rules of law.
