i actually think we stand a good chance to make somewhere in... blog as beautiful and exciting as we all want to see it, if we work together and each of us unite in contributing with the best we have, we all have a job to do and we all possess a good talent to do so:
1. start with yourself: if all of you do an effort to moderate your own words, and stop blaming or harassing others, calling names (or claiming that people use multiple nicks), it will create some calm. try to pull yourself out from the areas of controversy for a while, but give your views and opinions in polite and intelligent comments if you feel that you have to. bad posts deserve to die a silent death, rather than being kept artificially alive through high comment pressure.
2. be a good blogger: go back to the purpose of this blog and share your diary with the community, be constructive and share some good thoughts if you haven´t for a while. put down your guns for a while, please? there are so many excellent writers here, yes some has left, and we miss you. make your blog exciting through interesting content, rather than engaging in negative and destructive writing. your blog could become a popular magazine, an interesting news site, or a trend spotter blog. or you could cover your local area better than anyone else!
3. report problems through mail, rather than on the blog: report bad posts and bad comments to us for review in email, not in comments or posts. also claims about multiple nicks is better reported to us in mail rather than provoking those who are blamed for this through postings. use email arild @ somewherein . net and feedback @ somewherein . net. we will try to give all complaints a proper review and remove stuff that clearly violates the terms and conditions, less at random.
4. be positive: if you receive an email from us that we have blocked you from the front page, deleted a post or deleted a comment, take it as an adult. new commitment from us: if we block you from the front page or delete your post, we will send you an email with reference to your post and the reason why we chose to take the action we took. there is probably a good reason, we still trust that you have the talent to continue with more positive and constructive participation.
5. take a stand: declare for the community, not that you are leaving, but that you will raise above bad language, harassment and attacks and concentrate on sharing the stuff you like most with your fellow bloggers. perhaps we should develop a quality blogger badge for you to put on your blog?
6. appreciate: invest the time you save not bugging others in praising other bloggers for their good efforts, especially new members that are not so much known. give them a welcoming hand and help them feel welcome. we need more writers.
all in all, i hope that if a majority of you agree with these points, we can quickly make the sun shining again here. there is so much out there to write about and share that will make others laugh, smile and highly appreciate you.
many parks of dhaka has been given a good makeover with strong lights, clean foot paths and good guarding. the same here. once you install strong lightbulbs, plant beautiful plants and share the safety of togetherness on the blog, the previous shady and unsafe places soon become an oasis for people to roam, exercise and share colourful moments, even at night time. isn´t that what we all want?

There are many times more people who visit SWI, they dont tend to write rather read. A few blogger's are not the reflection of the blog. Think of your silent readers who are not writing but have stopped reading becuase of grouping of people, and their fights. Indecency requires action, indecency is not considered 'free speech'. This is a clear point.
Personally, I read SWI daily for last 1 year. When I saw those deleted posts being posted for the first time, I did not come back for a week, then stopped coming. Now I am visiting again. We need to grow backbone against pressure. Sometimes the goverment needs to take action against popular public sentinment because its right.
Repeat: As far as the posts regarding the Prophet is concerned I would support the axing of those posts. Because I found them to be offensive and not agrumentative. I consider myself an open minded person, however those posts were not at all created for argument. Rather they were made rub in distasteful hatred to some very personal feeling which are dear to most of the people in this country, the very country we grew up, the country most of SWI developers grew up with and the country which's laws the SWI must abive by.

Before any rules we need to restore the integritiy of the blog by restoring the deleted posts and allow the bloggers to analyze it. Then we can the community to define the boundaries and afterwards we can talk about gaurding the boundaries.

I am again saying I am aginst any kind of moderation. It will just help chaos be repeated time to time.For example,say, in your explanation 'bad/dirty words' are marked as the major factor for the previous chaos, but even on this issue people won't be united. Some people think dirty words should be banned, some think it's no problem but they just don't use it themselves, and some think it's necessary! So, where do you get everyone together?
Just let the 'dirty words, war criminals photos, harrasment of religions and other factors' enjoy a silent death.

I second Sourov.Probably my wording was not that good/expressive in the comment in your other post.
Its really interesting to see how the focus of this issue (which is the leaving-reason for Chor, Sourov and some others like me) is being carefully shifted over to somewhere else. Very catchy words are used: open-minded, different views..etc.
