Michelle Obama gives herself the curly 'Whitney' hairdo
Michelle Obama's beauty moves are always good, and sometimes brave - as was her latest hair choice at the annual correspondents' dinner at the weekend.
The First Lady sent waves through middle American salons on Saturday - quite literally - turning up to event with a new curly and tightly ringletted hairstyle, a look inspired apparently by the late Whitney Houston, circa 1991.
Obama's usually slick, straight hair was transformed by a curling tonged, left to bounce, move and tumble over her face - for a playful, twist on the bob, the 'do' de rigueur for 2015.

If hair played politics, Mrs Obama's would be ahead at the polls; she has obviously cottoned on to the fact that the boldest beauty moves are often just the newest. The coiffured version of her husband's rolled-up shirt sleeves, her bouncy curly do also says relaxed, friendly and real. "Women always look a bit softer with curly hair as it has looser, relaxed and fun feel. Afro hair always looks better curly as it's more true to the natural form of the hair. A lot of woman have been ditching straight hair for waves and it's great to see Michelle opting for this," explains celebrity stylist George Northwood.
And is it just us, but does it also say 'I'm 10 years younger'? It's no wonder women are in love with curls again. So much so in fact that Premlee Ramasamy, a stylist at Daniel Hersheson, reports that curls are bouncing into the boardroom too; "they're back. We have a lot of professional women coming into our London salon asking for wavy hair again. Michelle Obama's new 'Whitney' haircut tells us that business women are becoming more at ease with showing a diverse and confident side to their personalities in a dated conservative world. Curls have lost their 'silly' connotations. Curls can mean business now."
Trust the First Lady to be, well the first lady, to don the power hairdo.
