লিয়র লিখেছেন-
There was an Old Man of the Dee,
Who was sadly annoyed by a flea;
When he said, 'I will scratch it,'
They gave him a hatchet,
Which grieved that Old Man of the Dee.

সত্যজিৎ অনুবাদ করেছেন-
লালুবাবু বাড়ি তাঁর লাউডন ষ্ট্রীট
পাৎলুনে বসে দেখ অতিকায় কীট
তাই দেখে রাম দাঁ
এনে দেন রাম দা
বলেন,‘ এর এক কোপে কীট হবে ঢিট।’




লিয়র -
There was an Old Man of Whitehaven,
Who danced a quadrille with a raven;
But they said, 'It's absurd
To encourage this bird!'
So they smashed that Old Man of Whitehaven.

সত্যজিৎ-
কেনারাম ব্যাপারীর ভৃত্য
বায়সের সাথে করে নৃত্য।
লোকে বলে ‘এইভাবে
কাকটার মাথা খাবে।
ঢং দেখে জ্বলে যায় পিত্ত।’



লিয়র -

There was an Old Man, on whose nose,
Most birds of the air could repose;
But they all flew away
At the closing of day,
Which relieved that Old Man and his nose

সত্যজিৎ-
যত পাখি আছে মোমবাসাতে
বসে এসে আমার এই নাসাতে
যেই বাজে সাড়ে ছটা
একে একে সব কটা
উড়ে যায় যার যার বাসাতে।


লিয়র -
There was a Young Lady of Bute,
Who played on a silver-gilt flute;
She played several jigs,
To her uncle's white pigs,
That amusing Young Lady of Bute.

সত্যজিৎ-
বাজায় বাঁশি মেমসাহেবে
কেউ আসেনা কাছে
সবাই জানে
বাঁশির তানে
তিন শূয়োরে নাচে।
