have a look at how the blog communities in bangladesh has performed over the last few days. how did newcomer prothom alo do and what happened to us and the others?

all four blog communities gained, and somewhere in... blog hit its highest ever day rank on alexa on the 26th, when it was ranked as no 8128 globally. sachalayatan, amarblog and somewhere in... blog all had higher hits that day as the blogosphere was buzzing with discussions about the newcomer. as i suggested in my last post, it is you, the bangla blogger, who are the winner

prothom alo blog was well announced in advance and was awaited with high expectations. a great achievement for them to take 2nd position among the bangladeshi blog communities in just five days, but not surprisingly. was there any blogger of somewhere in... blog, amarblog or sachalayatan that did NOT visit prothom alo blog in these days? i visited many times, so did you i guess...

be really proud of one thing, fellow bloggers: bangla blogs = community blogs. i guess there is no other country in the world that has a higher % of the bloggers connected through community blogs. practically, somewhere in... gave birth to bangla blogs (with a few techie exceptions on blogger) and introduced the common front page as the main attraction.

this community concept is also the reason why prothom alo got so much attention in so short time. without the exisiting blog communities and their bloggers, it would have been impossible to get so many bloggers checking out their site at the same time.

because of this extremely strong stand of blog communities in bangladesh, and the established identity of 25 000+ bloggers, i think it is very important to have a debate about virtual identities and blogger nicks. bloggers are authors, journalists, thinkers and creators. they have earned respect, appreciation and status throughout the last three years. i think the blog communities should cooperate to ensure that chikonmia is chikonmia anywhere, as long as we talk about blog communities in bangladesh.

there are ways to synchronize nicks among the blog communities, and somewhere in... has already started working to establish a standard for virtual identities locally. prothom alo blog just arrived and we can expect many more local blog communities to see the light of day in 2009. this is the right time for the authorities to sit together and collaborate to protect the identities of all bangla bloggers, if all parties are willing.
