ইসলামে অনেক প্রসংগই আছে যা আমরা দেখেও দেখি না, শুনেও শুনিনা, বুঝেও বুঝিনা। এ কেমন দো টানায় পড়লাম। আল্লাহ'র তৈরী এই দুনিয়ায় আমার আম্মা বা বোনকে আমার জালিম আব্বার বা দুলাভাইদের কাছ থেকে কি কখনোই বাঁচানো যাবে না? ফরিয়াদ রইলো।

প্রশ্ন: ইসলামে কি ত্রী পেটানোর স্বাধীনতা আছে কি না?

উত্তর: হ্যাঁ, তবে শুধুমাত্র তখনই যখন একজন স্ত্রী তার স্বামীর কথা মানে না। স্বামীর আবদার না মেনে না নেওয়া পর্যন্ত একজন স্বামী তার স্ত্রীকে পেটানোর অধিকার রাখে। অবশ্য পেটানোটাই হলো শেষ রাস্তা যখন মৌখিকতায় আর কাজ হয় না।

মানে, একজন মানুষ হিসেবে নারী এখানে কতটাই অসহায় যে অন্যায় আবদার হলেও তা মেনে নিতে হবে। এখানে নারীর নিজস্ব ব্যাক্তি সম্মান ও স্বাধীনতা কতখানি মূল্যহীন তা পরিস্কার প্রকাশ পায়।

আল কোরআন এ উল্লেখ করা আছে যে,

Sura (4:34) - "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great." - কি আশ্চর্য, একজন নারী কি পশু নাকি যে তাকে কথা না মানার জন্য মার খেতে হবে?

হাদিস এ প্রায় একইভাবে উল্লেখিত আছে,

Bukhari (72:715) - A woman came to Muhammad and begged her to stop her husband from beating her. Her skin was bruised so badly that she it is described as being "greener" than the green veil she was wearing. Muhammad did not admonish her husband, but instead ordered her to return to him and submit to his sexual desires. - ব্যাপারটা কতখানি ভয়াবহ। একজন নির্যাতিতা নারীর বিচার আরো নির্যাতন। এ কেমন বিচার?

Muslim (4:2127) - Muhammad struck his favorite wife, Aisha, in the chest one evening when she left the house without his permission. Aisha narrates, "He struck me on the chest which caused me pain." - এখানে আমার কিছুই বলার নেই।

Abu Dawud (2141) - "Iyas bin ‘Abd Allah bin Abi Dhubab reported the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) as saying: Do not beat Allah’s handmaidens, but when ‘Umar came to the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) and said: Women have become emboldened towards their husbands, he (the Prophet) gave permission to beat them. Then many women came round the family of the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) complaining against their husbands. So the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) said : Many women have gone round Muhammad’s family complaining against their husbands. They are not the best among you." At first, Muhammad forbade men from beating their wives, but he rescinded this once it was reported that women were becoming emboldened toward their husbands. Beatings are sometimes necessary to keep women in their place.
- নারীদের এমন কোন স্থানে রাখার জন্য একথা বলা হয়েছে? আর সেই স্থানটি কোথায়? সেই স্থানটি কে আসলে ঠিক করে দিয়েছে? প্রশ্ন রইল।

Abu Dawud (2142) - "The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: A man will not be asked as to why he beat his wife."
- একজন পুরুষকে কখনোই হয়ত তার স্ত্রীকে পেটানোর জন্য কাউকে কারণ দর্শাতে হবে না। হোক না তিনি কতটাই সঠিক অথবা ভুল।

Ishaq 969 - Commands that a married woman be "put in a separate room and beaten lightly" if she "act in a sexual manner toward others." According to the Hadith, this can be for an offense as petty as merely being alone with a man to whom she is not related.
- এখানে একটি অন্যায়ের বদলে প্রতিহিংসার আগুন জ্বালানোর কথাই বলা হয়েছে। শান্তির কথা কই? আর, কোন পরিস্থিতে একজন নারী অন্যের সাথে এই ধরণের প্রেক্ষিতে জড়িয়েছে, সেটা হয়ত কেউ খুঁজে দেখবে না।
