The journalists and employees of the Daily Amar Desh at a demonstration at the National Press Club premises protested and condemned taking its editor Mahmudur Rahman on remand unlawfully.
Amar Desh unit of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) organised the programme while it was addressed, among others, by DUJ vice president Amirul Islam Kagozi, its former general secretary Sarder Farid Ahmed, general secretary of Photo Journalists Association Ahmed Meer, sub editor of Amar Desh Syed Abdal Ahmed, journalists Jahed Chowdhury, Alauddin Arif and Basir Jamal.
The journalists alleged that being politically motivate Mahmudur Rahman was taken on remand by arresting him in a false and fabricated case.
They said that the government wants to establish one-party rule like Bakshal, so it does not tolerate like newspaper of Amar Desh.
Expressing their concern over taking the editor on remand, they also said that the government wants to gag the freedom of media by creating pressure on media.
Demanding republication of Amar Desh and immediate release of its editor, they called upon the people of all professionals to form a united movement against the undemocratic and autocratic behaviour of the government.
