১। 4 Fully-funded PhD. Positions on Computer Vision for Autonomous Driving

The computer vision lab of Technical University Eindhoven is looking for four PhD. candidates on the topic of computer vision for autonomous driving. Specifically, on the topics of 1) real-time deep convolutional neural networks, and 2) large-scale and distributed visual-SLAM. The research projects are fully funded by the European H2020 program and by the Netherland's Technology and Science Foundation. All projects are in cooperation with outstanding international partners from academia and from industry.

In the research line of large-scale and distributed visual-SLAM, we aim for scalable fully-automated map creation and updating technologies on basis of crowdsourced vision data. This research line has two parts 1) geometric map creation to support accurate vehicle localization, and 2) semantic map creation to support safe driving, for the latter we will research off-line deep learning techniques. In the research line of real-time deep convolutional neural networks, the aim is to research techniques that allow deep convolutional neural networks to be used in real-time for multi-class object detection. The obtained techniques will allow an autonomous vehicle to construct a local semantic map of its surroundings. Besides fundamental research, strong emphasis will be on getting the technologies working robustly in real-world environments and conditions.

Research group information:
The team that you will be part of is led by Dr. Gijs Dubbelman and is part of the SPS/VCA research group. The SPS/VCA research group is focused on all domains of computer vision, ranging from medical image analysis, to surveillance, and intelligent vehicles. Dr. Gijs Dubbelman is heading the Intelligent Vehicles team, which is a new and fast growing team that started in 2014. The Intelligent Vehicles team successfully targets robotics, ITS, and computer vision conferences and journals, like ICRA, IROS, ITSC, T-RO. The SPS/VCA group is headed by Prof. dr. ir. Peter de With, which will be your PhD. promotor. Furthermore, The Eindhoven region, ICF's 2011 smartest region in the world, offers a very exciting high-tech environment and houses many international companies, like NXP, ASML, Philips, TomTom, DAF trucks, and many others.

Required:
- Good English speaking and writing skills.
- Good programming skills in either Matlab or c/c++ (preferably both).

২। 2 fully-funded PhD positions is available for a student to work on image analysis for neurosurgery. The project is a collaboration between the Medical Image Analysis Lab at Simon Fraser University and Neurosurgeons at the Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. The student will apply and develop image segmentation, registration and machine learning algorithms and tools to enhance the neurosurgeons' workflow and improve or predict the patient?s treatment or outcome. An ideal candidate has recently completed a masters degree in machine learning, computer vision, image processing or related areas, is preferably familiar with 3D medical image analysis methods and tools (segmentation, registration, ITK), is skillful in computational and mathematical techniques (high dimensional data analysis, graph theory, optimization) and programming (C/C++, Python, MATLAB), and is eager to learn and apply his/her skills to solve important clinical problems.

৩। I am looking for a PhD student (Fully-Funded) to join my research group Graphics,
Vision & Video (gvv.mpi-inf.mpg.de) at the Max-Planck-Institute (MPI)
for Informatics in Saarbruecken, Germany (http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de). The
position should be filled early next year, but the start date is
flexible.

The student will work with me on a topic in the general area of
marker-less dynamic scene reconstruction, an area where the group also
receives funding through an ERC Starting Grant. The goal is to rethink
the basic algorithmic concepts of marker-less motion capture, dynamic
(4D) scene reconstruction, performance capture and 3D Video. We
develop new 4D reconstruction methods that, unlike current approaches,
capture detailed models of dynamic shape and appearance (e.g. of
humans, human hands, human faces or general dynamic scenes) in complex
real world environments outside of the a lab using only a low number
of, or just a single camera. Such techniques are on high demand, and
for instance essential building blocks for next generation
human-computer and human-robot interfaces, or believable AR and VR
experiences. We also work on new algorithms for image-based
estimation of lighting and reflectance in general uncontrolled scenes,
and we utilize these estimates for improved 4D reconstruction, high
quality shape estimation, and relighting. Recently, we put a strong
focus on developing approaches that capture high quality models in
real-time from sparse sensor setups, even just a single camera
view. Here, we also investigate new machine learning
techniques for improved dense model reconstruction.

Application process:

Applicants should have a Bachelor, preferably Master degree, in
computer science or a closely related field. Course work and research
experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable:
multi-view / 3D scene reconstruction methods, general computer graphics
concepts4D reconstruction, computer animation, marker-less performance
capture, marker-less motion capture, tracking
algorithms, 3D Video. Course work / research experience in machine
learning is an additional plus.

Applicants should have an excellent academic record; publications in
one of the above areas are a plus. A candidate should be fluent in
