জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাব কর্তৃপক্ষের ভাষ্য

আজাহার আলী সরকার: সম্প্রতি কয়েকটি দৈনিকে ‘জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবে লাঞ্ছিত’ মর্মে একটি সংবাদের প্রতি জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাব কর্তৃপক্ষের দৃষ্টি আকৃষ্ট হয়েছে। এ ব্যাপারে গত ১৬ মার্চ জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবের প্রশাসনিক কর্মকর্তা আবু বকর সিদ্দিক সাক্ষরিত এক ব্যাখায় বলা হয়েছে, প্রকৃতপক্ষে গত শুক্রবার প্রেসক্লাবে কোন লাঞ্ছনার ঘটনা ঘটেনি। একজন রাজনীতিক ভুলক্রমে অন্য একটি অনুষ্ঠানে ঢুকে পড়লে সেখানে উপস্থিত কয়েকজন কটুক্তি করেন। উপস্থিত প্রেসক্লাবের সদস্যরা কটূক্তিকারীদের বাধা দেন। ওই রাজনৈতিক নেতা সেখান থেকে নির্ধারিত কক্ষে চলে যান। ক্লাব ভবনে বা অঙ্গনে সংগঠন বা ব্যক্তিবর্গ শৃঙ্খলা বজায় রাখাসহ কতিপয় শর্তসাপেক্ষে অনুষ্ঠান করতে আসেন। এসবের ব্যতয় হবে না বলে জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাব কর্তৃপক্ষ আশা করে।

A group of freedom fighters manhandled Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, senior assistant secretary general of Jammat-e-Islami, at the National Press Club in the city yesterday.

The freedom fighters called him 'an identified war criminal' and threw shoes at him when he came to the press club to attend a discussion organised by Swadesh Mancha, a pro-Jamaat organisation, witnesses said.

However, Swadesh Mancha leaders came to his rescue and took him to safety.

The freedom fighters yesterday gathered at the VIP lounge of the press club to attend a press briefing organised by the Sector Commanders Forum (SCF).

When Kamaruzzaman appeared at the press club at about 4:00pm and was going towards the VIP lounge instead of the conference lounge, a freedom fighter shouted out "Rajakar, Rajakar, why he is here", said an eyewitness.

Other freedom fighters then joined their fellow freedom fighter and manhandled Kamaruzzaman, he added.

When contacted, Kamaruzzaman admitted that he was manhandled by the freedom fighters.

He, however, denied his involvement in war crimes, saying that "I was mere an college student during the Liberation War."

"They attacked me for my active role in politics," he said, adding that their attitude is not acceptable.
