Saw Ananta and Barsha’s Pizza Hut video some time back. The provocations were really not necessary, and a lot people will lose control under such constant duress. I personally do not support such provocations in person. However, they are superstars created by the media. The tiniest of slips will be discussed by millions and therefore they need to be more careful wiht how they react. Just like many others, I have also shared jokes concerning him. However, I have never supported people saying ‘he is a loser’ or ‘he is a chorom khaet’ or any similar offensive statements. Instead, I have always told people that ‘He is an entertainment source, so I like him’. And that is the truth. Working in this industry, his job is to entertain people. If his unique pronunciation helps in doing so, irrespective to whether it is natural or artificial, we should take it sportingly. If that is funny, in this Internet age, people would always make fun of it. There is no way such jokes can be stopped. And if making jokes/memes/trolls about superstars were unacceptable, then Rajanikanth, who has got more jokes about him than Ananta will ever have, should have died by now. Actually such jokes are supposed to be taken as a measure of one’s stardom and fame. However, that does not mean that while meeting him, one should embarrass him like this. Personally, I do not think this ‘U Pom Gana’ issue would have been a big fuss had he simply accepted his limitation with pronunciation. There is a classic ‘disarming-the-audience’ technique where, by openly accepting the limitation of a performer/writer, the ridiculing efforts of public are greatly neutralized. I mean, come on guys, I went to an English medium school, yet I cannot say with 100% certainly that my English is flawless- after all, this is my second Language. But instead, he chose to defend it all the time by saying ‘Ami kintu Gana boli nai’ where the actual pronunciation is ‘Gana’ and not Ghana (as far as I know). That mentality made people ridicule him more, which in today’s video, had become more like taking a dig.
My words will not change anything, but end of the day he earns more, contributes more to the GDP, has created more work opportunities, revived the almost-dead film industry, is the first person from Bangladesh around whom regular memes are based on (face it, even Salman Khan/Shahrukh Khan have not had that luck, only Rajanikanth!), and ultimately pays more tax money to the govt. than you or me, so he already is a VVIP. So don’t worry Ananta, we may joke about you, but that is more like an acknowledgment to your stardom. However, if some kids say stupid things to you on the face, we would defend you too. That is how true fans think :-)
