Trail of killing Ziaur Rahman to be held,


President Ziaur Rahman was killed due to his strong opposition to the Indian aggressions and the trial of the killing must be held in the country.

President of Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (Jagpa) Shafiul Alam Prodhan said this at a roundtable discussion held at the National Press Club in the city, organised by Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP) to mark the 34th anniversary of historic Farakka Long March led by Maulana Bhasani.

The roundtable discussion was titled as ‘Indian Water Aggression: From Farakka to Tipaimukh’.

BNP standing committee member and former minister MK Anwar attended the programme as chief guest, with NAP general secretary M Gulam Mostafa Bhuyian in the chair.

MK Anwar said, Maulana Bhasani had raised his voice in favour of our independence at first time by saying to Pakistan ‘Assalamu Alaikum’. The nation now needs a great leader like Maulana Bhasani to protest the Tipaimukh Dam construction, a sign of Indian water aggression, he added.

The veteran leader said, the present government is now busy to implement the assignments given by our neighbouring country to make the country as failed state. In this situation, there is no alternative to resort tougher anti-government movement, he added.

The Ganges agreement signed in 1977 was possible only because of the massive Farakka Long March led by Bhasani, recalled MK Anwar.

The roundtable was addressed, among others, by opposition chief whip Joynul Abedin Faruk MP, chairman of National People’s Party (NPP) Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Nilu, NDP chairman Khandaker Gulam Mortuza, general secretary of Islami Oikkya Jote Maulana Abdul Latif Nejami, general secretary of Bangladesh Jatiya Party Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah and BNP central leader Khaleda Yeasmin.

Joynul Abedin Faruk called upon the people to be united against the government’s intention to establish one-party rule like Baksal.

Faruk also blamed the Speakers in the parliament for not making it effective as he said the Speakers are not neutral to conduct the parliament.

The speakers at the programme said that the people are remembering Maulana Bhasani for his Farakka long march that had drawn the attention of International forum for resolving the Ganges issue.
