Apparently, Jakir Nayek is receiving more publicity than ever. Being accused of ideological ( Which is nothing new) mastermind of militant Islam and Gulshan Attack , he is suddenly under scrutiny from every sector.

Jakir Nayek operates openly within the boundaries of law ( No one cares to address the legal system which allows hate speakers and extremists to operate uninterrupted). He preaches religious superiority, hate, intolerance, ignorance, extreme gender discrimination and anti-pluralistic views. His preaching are irrational, his logics are lame and full of lies. So as every other religious preachers.
For years the religious preachers have mastered the art of manipulation. They manipulate and exploit people through guilt.

We are an extremely guilt stricken society. We are one of the most corrupt if not the most corrupt country of the world. Our government officials, politicians and businessmen are extremely corrupt. At the end of a working day (Which mostly involves corruption) listening to Jakir Nayek and praising God brings a relief from guilt to us.
To ordinary conservative Muslims, He is a highly educated doctor which is very rare among Muslim hate preachers. The typical “Poorly Madrasa Educated” does not apply to him. It contributes an extra charm to his personality.

Jakir Nayek has something to sale to almost everyone. He could even sale that its all right according to Islam to physically assault the wives. Our society is horribly abusive and discriminatory towards women. Almost every woman in our society goes through some form of abuse. Majority of us abuse women consciously or unconsciously. Jakir Nayek approves our action gives us the religious legitimacy we seek because deep down we all known that the way we treat our women is wrong.

Neither I'm a fan of any religion nor I have an appetite for idiots like Nayek. Arguing about an Idiot like him is a complete waste of intellect. My argument is about the government and introduction of Jakir Nayek into the scene in relation to recent rise of terrorism.

Jakir Nayek has been preaching hate and extremism for years openly. No question was asked, no action was taken. He was even rewarded and praised by his exclusive and powerful fan club which includes politicians and super rich businessmen like Salman Rahman. He was untouchable until recently.

For over two years the terrorists gaining momentum in Bangladesh. It started with the killings of the secular bloggers. No action was visible to protect the bloggers or to bring justice. Instead we have witnessed a wave of state action in favor of political Islam- big chunks of money were allocated to the Madrasa sector, hate preachers who had threatened the bloggers had the privilege of impunity, bloggers were even arrested and threatened by the Ministers.

Killings of the secular bloggers were wake up call which the policy makers have failed to identify. Any terrorism expert would have recognized the pattern- the terrorists were trying to create momentum and preparing for something even bigger.

Everyone in Bangladesh is aware of the presence of over twenty thousand Afgan back mujahids currently residing in the various part of the country. Over a decade our governments have failed to create a data-base or to monitor them. We heard chanting “ We are all Taliban's- Bangla would become Afghan” in broad daylight. None of the leaders behind those actions were ever arrested. Main stream political parties even negotiated political deals with them.

In past few years there were a threat even greater “ The Islamic State”. A threat so dangerous that countries with very small Muslim population and very liberal cultures were even forced to place new-improved security measures. It is estimated about 2-4% of total Muslim population of Bangladesh (Jamat-Islam support base) holds extreme religious views and we have witnessed destruction from them in the recent past. On the top of that we already have the Afghan back mujahids. The government was reluctant to take necessary action.

It is now been told there are over 600 Bangladeshis ( Could be more) are currently fighting with IS. The Gulshan Attackers were trained overseas by IS. Recently it has been revealed, they were caught by Bangladeshi Immigration and later released. If they were brought to a trial or monitored, the Gulshan tragedy could have been escaped. Twenty precious lives could have been saved and our reputation could have been salvaged.

One of the masterminds of the Gulshan attack as it reveals, Hasnat Karim was accused of terrorism few years ago. He was released and he was not motored. Many of his Hizbut-Tahrir colleagues were also released or simply escaped arrest and none of them are monitored either. The government agencies now even do not know their whereabouts.

The minister of interior was playing denial games with us for so long and did not take any responsibility even after the Gulshan tragedy. This man was threatening the bloggers and some may say his statements and actions have inspired the terrorists. And still he is the Minister, same portfolio. No responsibility taken, no effort has been made to hold him responsible for his failures.

For so long, hate preachers like Saydee and Jakir Nayek have been operating in Bangladesh without any accountability. Still Saydee's hate speeches are in the market selling like hotcakes. They were never censored.

I appreciate some of the actions taken by the government in the last few days including the action to restrict Peace TV and Jakir Nayek. But why it was not done before? Why no one has noticed that Jakir Nayek was preaching hate and extremism?

My other concern is even greater. It seems the government is intentionally trying to divert our focus to Jakir Nayek from the fact that the rise of recent terrorism may be a product of government's failed actions. Who could be a better choice than Jakir Nayek considering his popularity? And apparently, the government has succeeded. The media and the whole society are now more focused on arguments ( Both in favor and opposition) over Jakir Nayek than finding the security failures in relation to Gulshan. No one has asked Mr. Kamal the most important question of all yet, “ Why the terrorists were released and if released were they monitored?”
