Its been many years a group of Bangladeshi secular activists trying to receive political attention in relation to increasing violent Islamic militancy. In response they were slaughtered. The government was reluctant even to address the issue labeling it as unexpected and irregular occurrences. Up until the Gulsahan attack the government of Bangladesh had its head stuck in the sand.

Since the Gulshan attack there are some visible sign that the government is serious to tackle the terrorists. However, apparently the government doesn't have a well-adjusted, well-planned strategy. It is even unclear whether or not the government and its policymakers understand the issue. All we could see is an attempt to control the violence and the terrorists. No effort made to address the real issue- "the extremist ideas" so far.

In the last few weeks the government tried to blame an India based hate preacher “Jakir Nayek” to divert the attention which was quite successful. The Friday Khutba idea was appreciated by many but seemingly it has become an utter failure due to refusal from the powerful religious lobbies. No action was taken to confront those who refused the Khutba. More importantly none of the well-known hate preachers were arrested or questioned until to date. A promise to allocate more money for the religious lobby has already been made. An approach also made in 2013 which was a complete failure. It achieved almost nothing. And following Gulsan attack none would disagree that the extremist groups have become more and more violent since 2013.

According to a recent report, the extremist leaders merged together and ordered terrorist attacks while in the prison. Apparently, the Government has not taken any action to monitor them and they were operating almost freely. This is very concerning. Also the government was very interested in monitoring and restricting the secular bloggers from their peaceful writing but the extremists were free to preach their violent Jihad. No attempt made to restrict them.

No effort made by the government to address the kind of extremism we are against, yet. No one is willing to spend some of the political capitals to define the nature of the extremism. The extremism we are facing is religious and Islamic faith is involved with it. How hard it is to say. It helps to outline a clear direction. No one is saying that all Muslims are terrorists. It is already been established for many years that almost all of the Muslim people are peaceful despite having a close tie with their faith. And again those who are terrorists are also Muslims. The ideology they are driven by comes from the extreme interpretation of Islamic texts from the same books. The recruiters and hate-preachers influence and command young Muslims to kill people from other faith referring to Islamic texts. They chants Allah-Akbar when the killings are performed. The religious nature of the problem and accusations simply can not be brushed off just by quoting Religion of Peace myth. Someone within the government must admit and address it.

In the last few days government's lack of strategy became more visible. We have witnessed government party officials blaming Jewish and Christians for the terrorists attacks. It has made them a laughing stock. Blaming Christians and Jewish neither solve the problem we are facing nor it is true. It actually indicates intellectual deficit and incompetence. Why not address the real issues? Someone has to talk about those 160+ religious texts and their interpretations. Its ridiculous even to indicate that Israel or US created ISIS let alone blaming them.

The government also need to understand the religion of peace myth has failed. They are the one to blame for this failure. Muslim world including Bangladesh is devastated by injustice, inequality and corruption. Such human abuse and peace can not co-exist together. Therefore, instead of talk-talk they must address the real issues. Confront the ideologies. Talk about those 160+ Islamic texts and their interpretations. We are good Muslims and they are bad Muslims not helping. Apparently, the so called Bad Muslims are gaining the upper hand.
