Dhaka is undergoing change. The change is so rapid that except few landmarks one may not be able to recognise the interior 10 years hence. Dhaka's golden past and heritage is allowed to be decimated without keeping any documentation.
A friend of mine settled in New York wanted me to send him a picture of his old school (Muslim High School). I knew the school a majestic red mansion located east of Bahadur Shah park. I searched internet days after days for a picture but failed (most of our prestigious institutes don't have website, DU and BUET webpage are mere apology). So are the Govt institutions. Dhaka City Corp website instead of ward maps and roads have faces of officials in the photo gallery site. So are foreign financed LGED, RHD, Public Heath, PWD, Collectorate, Foreigh office and Biman etc.
I went to Muslim high School personally and was appalled to see the majestic building vanished, its place occupied by a drab yellow shabby structure. Out of curiousity I went to Collegiate school and Pogose school which are near and then to Armanitola high school. I was shocked with the dilapidated condition.
Excuse my writing, I don't write well. I strongly believe persons like Poet Shamsur Rahman and many intellectuals or 'Sushil Somaj' who were born and nurtured in Dhaka city didn't do justice to Dhaka. They could revive Dhaka's past-life, culture. anecdotes and lost glories in words like Sunil Gango's "Sei Somoi'. Only Sayeed Ahmed is exception.
