At 12 noon (Bangladesh time), all progressive secular pro-71 community Bangla blog platforms went into BLACK OUT mode to protest the harrassment, arrest, detention and torture of bloggers in Bangladesh. In this persecution of bloggers, both Government of Bangladesh and the extremist militant islamist groups seem to be shamelessly complicit, where the former is apparently trying to appease the latter, a stance that can only be described as betrayal of the spirit of 1971.

So far Adivasi blog, Amar blog, Amrabondhu blog, Cadet College blog, Choturmatrik blog, Ishtishon, Muktangon blog, Muktomona blog, Nagorik blog, Sachalayatan, Shorob blog, Unmochon - all these community blog platforms, representing some 250,000+ registered bloggers, have joined this unanimous protest and more platforms are joining in solidarity. Seven of the platforms mentioned are ICSF partners, and they all have been individually and collectively supporting the International Crimes Tribunals of Bangladesh as part of their long standing campaign for justice for the 'international crimes' that were perpetrated against this nation during the Liberation War of 1971.

Bloggers are the life blood of FreeSpeech in Bangladesh. Blogs represent the last remaining intellectual engagement space that is free, fearless and independent. Persecution of bloggers has to stop and it has to stop NOW, this very minute.
