বিএনপির স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য ব্যরিষ্টার রফিক আজ এক সভায় বলেছেন -পাকিস্তানী বাহিনী ভারতীয় বাহিনীর কাছে আত্মসমর্পণ করে-

Mentioning the documents of Bangladesh history, BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah said Pakistani occupation forces surrendered to Indian forces in 1971.

“There is no mention of Pakistani forces having surrendered to the freedom fighters of Bangladesh,” he said.

Saying that the members of EPR and BDR had revolted against the Pakistani occupation forces for the first time, the BNP leader criticised the government's initiative to rename the BDR.

Addressing a discussion on “Peelkhana Killings and Border Guard Act-2010’ as the chief guest, he said “The name of BDR is related with the independence war and our independence, but the name is being erased as well as their contributions.”

He alleged that the conspiracy is going on in the support of a neighbouring to erase the history of Bangladesh and the contributions of freedom fighters.

Referring his meeting with India's Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora in Dhaka in 1997, he claimed that the Bangladesh supreme commander MAG Osmani was not present during the surrender on December 16 in 1971.

He further claimed he had asked Aurora about the surrender and who were present at the time, Aurora could not answer well but only said that he had acted as ordered by Delhi.

“It seems that there was no Independence War in 1971. It was a war between India and Pakistan,” the BNP leader said.

Sacheton Nagorik Samaj organised the discussion at the National Press Club in the capital with its President Mizanur Rahman in the chair.

It was addressed, among others, by President of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa) Shafiul Alam Pradhan, BNP lawmaker Nilufar Yeasmin Chowdhury Moni, Maj Gen (Retd) Mohammad Ainuddin Birpratik and Advocate Kamrul Islam Sajal.

The speakers alleged that the conspiracy is going on to form another ‘Rakkhi Bahini’ by changing the name of BDR into ‘Border Guard Bangladesh’.

Mentioning that the majority law of the Act is contradictory to the constitution, they said if the Act is enacted, the force would be ruined.

They called upon the country’s people to be united against the conspiracy that is going on to identify the country as a failed state.
