A little personal space and quite time alone for him/herself is a human desire but in political landscape being alone is nothing but suffering, misery and failure. Tragically, a large number of socialist groups in Bangladesh is completely alone. In fact their loneliness and sufferings is a constant reminder of their pathetic political failure.

After years of living under the illusion of greatness of Marxists philosophy nearly all of the socialist groups have finally come to a realization that the Marxist philosophy was unrealistic and it has nothing to offer except a few who still refuge the reality of modern economy, development pattern and the new world order or in the other words they are too stupid to accept the fact. As a result, they have ended up alone and lonely in the political landscape. What an utter failure of such passionate efforts.

Many assumes that the failure of socialism is normal. It had to happen because of their lack of engagement and understanding of people and desire. Many also add that Marxism was never designed for people. It was always about power through manipulation and exploitation of emotion. But I have soft corner for those Marxists who have dedicated their lives and work for the underprivileged. they may have chosen the wrong ideology, wrong policy or they maybe too passionate to realize the stupidity but their intention and emotion to me is always beyond any doubt. This is my position on Bangladeshi socialist movement and their supporters. I'm fascinated by their dedication. Though I have no desire for their ideas or intelligence.

For years the socialists had a romance with Russian proletariat literature. They operated under the shade of mighty Soviet flag. And after the failure of Soviet Russia they just became orphans. Abandoned by the world they became disorientated from the society and the governing system. Some just was not able to cope with this new phenomenon which made them act like a rebellious child. The type we read in the nobles written by Charles Dickens.

In Bangladesh, the situation was changed for some socialist groups when Awami League came to rescue extended its hand to offer support and much needed oxygen to survive politically. Awami League saved few of the great socialist voices of the land. Thank to Awami League's timely effort, once great socialist representatives like Motia Chowdhury, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul haque Inu, Fazle hussain Badsha, Nuh-Ul Alam Lenin found their voice once again. They were able to make a difference in nation building. Play a constructive role in law making process.

To be honest, Awami League is under an obligation to offer these secular voices a helping hand which Awami League has acknowledged and obliged. No one could ever blame Awami League in this perspective. Despite having many differences with the socialist front mainly on which economic direction the nation must follow Awami League leadership was wise enough to realize that the socialists has a lot in common with them. The both side have similar social justice values for instance. And both sides have build a working relationship successfully for the last few years. The socialists have realized that Awami League has an economic agenda which must be delivered and Awami league has realized that it is under an obligation to protect the secular forces. No matter how small or how irrelevant they are in election politics.

Awami league is not only the defender of secularism and protector of secular ideas in context of Bangladesh it is also like a father figure to all those parties big or small who has a dedicated agenda to defend secularism. The problem rises when some of the rebellious children refuse to live under the shed of the father. The likes off CPB, Gana Samhati or BASOD.

The other big issue is many of these socialist activists actually came from a pro-Pakistan, anti-liberation war background. Their families were against Bangladesh in 1971. An Anti-Awami League sentiment runs through their vein. Though they were able to acquire a progressive mind through their own effort which is appreciable in every sense but still they are not cured from the Anti-Awami League trauma which has spreaded roots deep inside their thoughts due to negative family upbringing. And they live with this dilemma. I sincerely feel pity for them. It must be hard for them to bear such trauma, such mental disorder all life long. They wants to make a difference. Wants to do good for the people. They have all the right intentions and yet they must oppose Awami League- the greatest ever progressive movement of our nation.

Such mental disorder. Disorientation from the society. feeling of not being heard despite making many good points creates an extreme form of loneliness. Being left alone brings a profound political suffering for them.

As Awami League has already proved her willingness to help and support the socialists putting little more effort won't harm anyone, I assume. It could mean just listening to them some time. Inviting them for dialogue. A process to create a working relationship despite all their foolish ideas. It could also mean setting up a joint team to promote secular ideas. Something common between the both sides. It could become a lifeline for their survival. A platform which might allow them to engage with people effectively. And they won't feel so lonely.

Many hard-core typical anti-Awami League socialists may find such an idea shocking as they got used to with prioritising Self-promotion and self-actualization over the greater good of the nation. But doing the right thing for the greater good of the nation can be a more profound way of self-promotion. Selfishness must not have any room in national issues.

Awami league should bring it into their policy that these small socialists groups must be taken care of. It would be a wonderful gesture to give them a platform to speak, to help them out of this miserable loneliness. However, Awami League has already stated their intention and willingness to assist. It is now to these small socialist groups to respond. It is a question for them to answer. Can they take responsibility and build a working relationship with Awami League or they will continue being the rebellious child and keep being disorientated?
