১৯৭০ সালে গ্যাস্টোন (Gaston BOUTHOUL -1896-1980) এ থিউরি দেন , তার এ থিউরি “Youth Bulge” নামে পরিচিত। তিনি প্রথমে ধারনা দেন যে একটি দেশের জনসংখ্যায় ১৫ থেকে ৩৫ বছরের যুবকের শতকরা হার সে দেশের সম্ভাব্য অস্থিতিশীলতার/যুদ্ধ বা ভায়োলেন্স তৈরির জন্য একটি বড় নির্দেশক সংখ্যা।

১৯৯১ সালে Jack A. GOLDSTONE তার Revolution and Rebellion in the Early Modern World, Berkeley et al., 1991, বইতে ইংলিশ রেভুলেশন নিয়ে আলোচনা করছিলেন তখন Causes of the English Revolution( 1642-1651) অংশে বলেন
There was an “inability of English economic, fiscal, and social institutions to adjust to the sustained population growth of the years 1500-1640 [2.2 to 5.2 mil-lion] / Young men desperate for positions, […] the remarkable surplus of landless younger sons […], in short, the large number of younger sons among the gentry as a whole, for whom the Crown was unable to provide patronage […], created a large body of men willing to take sides to establish a claim to their futures, and hence brought an exceptional volatility to these years.”

Samuel HUNTINGTON তার বই The Clash of Civilizations বইতে প্রথম বারের মত বর্তমান সময়ের উপযোগী করে “Youth Bulge” এর বাস্তব ব্যাখ্যা দাড় করেন। মূলত এর আগে পর্যন্ত এ থিউরিটা বাস্তবতার নিরিখে উধাহরন হিসাবে ব্যাবহারের উপযোগি করে কেউ ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারেন নি । তিনি তার বইতে বলেন
“The resurgence of Islam has been fuelled by […] spectacular rates of population growth. /First, and most important, the demographic explosion in Muslim societies and the availability of large numbers of often unemployed males between the ages of fifteen and thirty is a natural source of instability and violence both within Islam and against non-Muslims. Whatever other causes [Huntington’s own former theory of religious conflict] may be at work, this factor alone would go a long way to explaining Muslim violence.”

১৯৯৭ সালের দিকে এসে আমেরিকার সামরিক চিন্তাবিদদের কাছে এ থিউরির গ্রহন যোগ্যতা পায় , সে সময় থেকে সামরিক বাহিনি , সি আই এ , বা আন্তর্জারিক ভাবে কাজ করে এমন সব গুলো এজেন্সির কাছে কোন দেশের জনসংখ্যা মুখ্য একটি বিষয় হিসাবে দেখা দেয়।
