Media is such a place where duty is more important then emotion and everyone who is related in media should avoid their personal sentiment from any event. It is such a profession where duty, honesty and responsibility are more important then any other object. As it directly influences the audience so when they broadcast something, should be aware about it. Before talking about media position in BDR mutiny we should know how media related with ethics. In media ethics means to be honest when to broadcast something. Don’t be biased by any authority, be truthful about news, and should not try to personally harass anyone. During the BDR mutiny in 25 February media roll was so confusing and at the same time it so discouraging that it brought shame for all the channels as without knowing the fact they supported the recalcitrant. They broadcasted wrong news and confused the audience.


Most of the people came to know the fact when media started to broad the news otherwise we could not come to the truth. On next day general sentiment of the people and defense personnel turned strongly against the BDR mutineers as news and pictures of the brutal killings of army officers came to light. TV broadcasts on Wednesday and newspaper reports highlighted some mutineers who justified their act saying that they have been financially deprived and ignored for a long time and the army officers who command them were corrupted and emerged in newspapers and television channels. Many reporters took their life risk to know what is going on to the BDR head quarter. Some bravo journalists tried their best to take interview of the BDR jawan and at last they became successful.
While such media coverage seemingly drew some public sympathies, all felt that none of these allegations could justify what the mutineers have done. Why media support BDR: it is a critical question that why media at a time supported BDR without knowing the truth behind it. There are some courses which is related with it First of all during the caretaker government media is enforced by the army and as most of the TV channel were restricted during their ruling period so that they are not gratified by the previous government But as it is a national image question so before such a emotional issue they should consider how much they ought to delineate to the spectator. On the first day they only took BDR soldiers interview and tried to prove it that their revolution is for their right and for their survival. But it is media’s first responsibility to fairly justify. So when they took BDR interview they should also took army’s interview. At 12 pm in the spot, who were in there said that many people were died but media said that 2 or 3 people were died, which was a severe blunder.

During the nightmare situation all channels involved in competition like who can deliver the latest news first but they didn’t thought about the effect of the news. When some women and children were rescued from BDR residence they were not willing to give interview and many woman covered the face as well as children were so frustrated. But the correspondent didn’t care about it even couldn’t realize their mental situation. Even they asked some odd question like “did they misbehaved?.” which they should not have asked and also should avoid picking women pictures. Channels and news papers openly broadcast the dead body of the army officers. The bodies recovered from sewage system bore marks of utter brutality. The bodies were mutilated by gunshots and bayonet charges and ruthlessly dumped in the sewage system and how they collected dead body from manhole which is not ethical. Many children and adult persons became mentally sick by seeing those terrible pictures. People became upset for the down staying situation of the country. I talked with some children and adult person to know their feeling after BDR mutiny.


Papry- She read in class eight shares her feelings “I was afraid after seeing those pictures, it was so horrible and so bloodiest. Is it possible by a person to kill another person?”
Raihan haque- Those pictures made me frustrated. Where are we living and where the country is going on. If the most civilian persons haven’t any guaranty of their live how we will say that we are secure? Better to leave the country for our betterment.

Media is a watch dog of the society. its main responsibility is to inform the audience about what is going on and the real fact of any event. But airing BDR mutiny media was bias by emotion. Media’s judgment about any event should be critical and more intellectual. At the very beginning of mutiny without knowing the entire situation they indirectly supported BDR. When they came to know the real fact they focused on army positively. It is media ethics that it should not broadcast those news or picture which is destructive for the audience. Many news papers broke up this rule and rudely broadcast some death picture which is really intolerable. Many people are now frightened about their security and many children became sick after watching those excruciating picture. As a third world country media play a great rule to represent us in abroad. So media should be concerned that which news is ethical for our country. No news channels or papers have the right to misjudge us as a nation. By seeing those incident many western country marked us as a terrorist and for their suspicion many worker lost their job like the Malaysian workers. Even some countries have made restriction to give Bangladeshi visa and also feel less interested to invest money in our country. Media’s irresponsibility some how related for irate situation. Media is a national wealth so it should work for the betterment of the nation.

TV channels and news paper have made programs about BDR incident like talk show and round table meeting where they invited those people who are related with politics who like to blame the opposition party for the incident rather then the solution. Their speech has divided the nation. Media should be concerned that whether those speech or picture make the victims family vengeanceful. In any national disaster citizen should be united and media can play a great rule in this circumstance. So they should invite those people who can give a better solution as it’s not the time for debate. Media shouldn’t broadcast others claim or it’s self without verifying the truth. So when some political parties or other claimed that RAW, Pakistan and jamat involve with it they should thing whether they will broadcast it or not. Even every day they are giving the information about the criminal punishment procedure which impedes the procedure. Media disclosed the address and parent name of those Jayans who are involved in the mutiny. It distorts their family privacy. It’s true that they are criminal but not their family member so when media disclose their address they are banded by the society. They aren’t broadcasting the situation of the innocent BDR soldiers who were not involved with the mutiny. Media should become more careful about it.

Channels invite some fixed army officers wife to focus their present situation to the audience but they shouldn’t focus on any individual rather then on all sufferers. Although from some point of view it seems unethical but from other perspective it has some ethical values. as some are really in great peril to lead a balanced life and came to media to telecast their indignant situation to get some help from the government. There are some innocent passerbies lost their life during the BDR mutiny and their family became the victim. Economically those families fell in disaster. But no TV channels cover their situation and could not make an appeal to the government for help them financially. Its a discrimination be between poor and rich and violation of human rights


Media play a vital role to trail the criminal. They organized different programs and by those programs they delivered the message to the audience that the criminal must be punished. Media delivered the sorrow and suffering of the victim to the audience and that why they come to know their circumstances. Although when government has asked many time for the trail media also supported the government directly or indirectly. However ethics is related in every profession media is not different from those. Media is an industry and for the betterment of the industry it should follow ethics. To ensure the democracy of Bangladesh practicing of ethics in media is significant.
