19 buses for 8 to 9 thousands nonresidential students in D



Saima live in uttara is, nonresidential student of Dhaka university. Her class was at 8.00 but she has arrived at the university at 8.00. The cause behind it is not the traffic jam, moreover but didn’t give tripe.

Every day many students of DU like saima are facing the same transport problems. DU authority launched bus service for the nonresident students in 1983. Every day for 8 to 9 thousand nonresident students DU has only 19 single and double-decker buses of its own and others are BRTC bus.
Within these 19 buses 1 doesn’t work for long day and in average 2 to 3 buses remain undone every day. Md. Auteur Rahman section officer of DU transport office agreed that the number of buses are really insufficient and transport community is trying to include some new buses. He also included that every years for repairmen and other transport cost university fund has 15 million take budget in this section. But last year it aided 8 million taka for alleged

Buses are giving trip in 13 ruts. Long distance areas buses like Choitali, Khonika, Torongo, and Hamonto give 20 to 24 trips and less distance area buses such as kinchit, srabon are giving 14 to 17 trips. Single buses have the capacity to load 52 students where those are carrying 100 to 150 students and there are 85 sits for double-decker but carry 200 to 250 students. Most of the buses Trip start from 6.50 and stop at 5.05. For lack of space Most of the time in running bus students hangs with the door. Every bus route has a committee and members are selected from the students. Community members handle student’s allegation and monitor whether the drivers are giving their trip in time.
Most of the students show dissatisfaction for the bus service. Many students allege that they couldn’t attend to the class on time as buses make late. And some time drivers don’t want to pick them for over load. Sabiha Jahan regular passenger of Srabon said that there isn’t any alternative chance to get any bus if the avail one doesn’t work. And as the cars are old so sometime they stopped working in the mid way. Although the bus committee knows about it but remain silence. Saima Islam 4 year student said last years I was a member of Khonika bus community but I leave my post for its inside politics and irregularity of the members of the community. There is no unity inside the community and most of the members are busy for there post.

Many students were injured during their bus transport. If someone injured by the bus directly or indirectly bus authority will bear his or her medical cost
